Wither Our Country

Last week Doordarshan was celebrating its 50th anniversary. And they were showing the journey which they had undertook in last 5o years. Well I remember a little of those days when we had 1 channel in whole TV. Those were much better than today, when we have more than 100 channels in our TV sets. Still there are hardly any good serials or programmes on TV. But that time we used to be so happy watching ‘Shree Krishna’ on Sundays and ‘Aladdin’ on Fridays. Best of them were ‘Surabhi’ and ‘The Discovery of India’. Those were the best days of my life.
I mean not only in forms of TV best in every field. We had a good balanced life. But nowadays we have extra of everything. 24 hours knowledge channels, 24 hours news channels in all languages, even 24 hours cartoon channels. Today I must say must say this that those who are spending their childhood now are perhaps most unlucky. Every where there is tension and they are growing up in this kind of atmosphere. What kind of effect this is going to have on their young minds. They neither have the proper time nor the place to play. And I live in suburbs then what about the cities? I really pity them when I realise what we have got and what they are not. They are living totally in the virtual world of computers and not in the world of the real games and stuff. And all these are the result of the so called development happening in our country. I think it should be called Americanization of India. Not development. From foot to toe we are trying our best to copy Americans. When they struggled for change in their country we ran a meaninglessly same campaign for change which we never wanted. We are throwing our nutritious food which have been developed I our country for thousands of year and which suits our needs best. And bringing in those food which have made America obese. For example a well known fast food chain is offering a glass of coke, a burger and French fries for whopping Rs. 85. With that money we can buy four times more Indian food. Why are we giving up every thing that is Indian and taking in which are good for other countries and not for us. Because perhaps being Indian is a bit old and becoming an American in what today called modern. Our life, our country we are totally changing and not developing. We are giving up all those values, which are unique and whole world envies us for that. The values of self sacrifice, family, religious tolerance etc. Where are these today. Who will teach us that these are what world envies us Indians for and not just and degree from IIT or IIM. We must therefore try building a developed India and not just any other developed country.

Together we can

I liked the idea given by Sulakshana. Why should we all work separately and not together? After all, all of ours projects are related to climate change. We are just tackling it through different fronts. Someone is working for green building, someone in climate finance, someone in awareness etc. But my project has got best of all the worlds. So surely need the help of all you guys out there. But then the one of our Martian Mr. Raghav’s worry is very correct. What I think we should do is we should simply write about what we are doing and let the help flow in. All the things which Raghav says are true and practical. But then we have to make our project impactful. And this work cannot be done alone for sure. So we should focus our energy at not more than ten projects at a time. But surely we can pass suggestions and all to others. For example we in East Zone more precisely ICCs in and around Kolkata have 4 waste management projects so we are doing it together. I also have a waste managemen...

UnIndianing India

Today our Republic turns 70years. In these year we have raised ourselves from ashes of partition and hate, braved conflicts internal and external. Yet we have carried on as a republic for so long, because we stayed true to the ideals of our founding fathers. The ideas that shaped our struggle against a colonist, against the communalists. But very often did our republic find itself at the verge and it seemed the dreams that freedom fighters saw for our free nation might be too much. Last few months if not years have been like that as well. When we seem to be turning our backs to the principles that defined our country. Principles of unity in diversity. Where so many people from so many different part regions, religions speak so many languages, can live and thrive together. Where different ideas from anywhere is not frowned upon. Where one does not have to fear to speak his/her minds out. Where people from different places and religions were welcomed not just as guests but as God...
