Merry Christmas :The Best Gift ever

After a long time I am writing a personal blog. That is for a really important reason. On 24 th our college participated in what I think was the most ill prepared quiz I have ever been to. Naturally I had near no hope of winning the quiz. But it seems that Santa had my gift planned because through the night I prayed to God to help. We won the third prize. I was so happy that day. It was the first inter-college competition where I have represented the college. Next year we have all the things prepared and will try our best to win not just the district finals but also the state championship too. And on the Christmas Eve also there were all calling giving congratulations and wishing Merry Christmas. There were so many lighted and decorated houses no one can say that we live in non Christian majority area. That is what called INDIA where all religions are same. I am so happy. But I want to pray to God please give them the same kind of Happiness as you have me this. To all those who may not

An Autobiography or The Story of My Experiments with Truth - M. K. Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, one of the greatest men to walk this earth. He begins the story of his life with descriptions of his childhood in Porbandhar and Rajkot in Gujrat, his schooldays, his early marriage, the lessons he learnt when he tried stealing, told lies and smoked cigarettes, and his unshakable devotion to his parents. He then tells us of his journey abroad, first to England and then to South Africa, and narrates in simple, lucid language his transformation from a shy, different young man with a chronic fear of public speaking to a fearless lawyer and leader of men who took on the might of the British empire. First published in 1927, Gandhi’s autobiography is a classic of modern Indian literature. This edition in Puffin series is abridged for young reader. It starts with an introduction by APJ Abdul Kalam. This also contains many snippets about the topic which he mentions in the book for better understanding of his time & struggle. The book therefore allows a new gene

Destination Moon - Pallava Bagla, Subhadra Menon

In 2008 Indian Flag was planted on lunar soil. But how did Indian reached their? What started with sending sounding rockets for the benefit of the newly formed developing country ended up being the leading space programme in the world? It gives all the details on how the Indian Space Programme evolved. Starting literally from scratch, and fight foreign embargoes and technology denial regimes it evolved in to country’s if not world finest institution. It shows how it started under the visionaries like Vikram Sarbai, Homi Bhaba, and the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and was subsequently supported by different governments. The space programme it self shows that if given in the right hands and in down in the best way possible it can not only be India’s best but also world’s best. It is surely inspiration for all the crumbling government institutions. In the later chapters it also gives us an insight into the future of ISRO. It also have the interview Dr G.Madhavan Nairof ISRO, Dr.

“Nothing will be same again”

It was one of the placards seen in the protest in aftermath of 26/11 attacks. It’s been a year since that unfortunate day. A day surely ‘we Indians will never forget’ who lost their lives and forgive those who converted our peace loving country into a war zone. They attacked Mumbai because it is city of dreams but today we see even bigger dreams and are fulfilling them all. They could not even break our heritage buildings how they can break our country. In these days we have surely failed those hate mongers. Who wanted to spread hate in our country by uniting and giving love to each other. We have again proved to world that in spite of everything we can defeat hate with love. We could have done what America had done in Iraq and Afghanistan but fought the war with patience. Defeated our enemy, and once again emerged from this dark chapter stronger as a nation. Today world have finally acknowledged what we have been saying for ages. That Pakistan is a state sponsoring terrorism. All of

Blink: Malcolm Gladwell

The author describes the main subject of his book as "thin-slicing": our ability to gauge what is really important from a very narrow period of experience. In other words, spontaneous decisions are often as good as—or even better than—carefully planned and considered ones. Gladwell draws on examples from science, advertising, sales, medicine, and popular music to reinforce his ideas. Gladwell also uses many examples of regular people's experiences with "thin-slicing." Gladwell explains how an expert's ability to "thin slice" can be corrupted by their likes and dislikes, prejudices and stereotypes (even unconscious ones), and how they can be overloaded by too much information. Gladwell also tells us about our instinctive ability to mind read, which is how we can get to know what emotions a person is feeling just by looking at his or her face. We do that by "thin-slicing," using limited information to come to our conclusion. In what Gladwel

M.V. Kamath - A Journalist At Large

M.V. Kamath, with four decades of rich and varied experiences, has travelled the world with an eye for people and a nose for news. He has met an amazingly wide range of characters from all walks of life — from royalty to Nobel laureates, from film and theatre personalities to statesmen and politicians. His meetings have resulted in this collection of anecdotes — some sad, some outright funny, and some simply staid. His writing in no way borders on gossip, but rather delves into the humanity of each subject. Journalism opened up vast avenues for M.V. Kamath. He lived a life of pleasant surprises, wondering what the next day held for him.. He views both these universal experiences as ephemeral. This fleeting aspect of life binds each anecdote to the other, thus elevating story-telling to a fine art, that doesn’t sound forced or acquired, and comes straight from the heart. The short pieces in this book are a minute collection of material that would probably fill up 10 such books. But the

The Lost Symbol-Dan Brown

Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned at the last minute to deliver an evening lecture in the Capitol Building. Within moments of his arrival, however, a disturbing object – gruesomely encoded with five symbols - is discovered at the epicentre of the Rotunda. It is, He recognises, an ancient invitation, meant to beckon its recipient towards a long-lost world of hidden esoteric wisdom. When Langdon's revered mentor, Peter Solomon – philanthropist and prominent mason – is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes that his only hope of saving his friend's life is to accept this mysterious summons and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon finds himself quickly swept behind the façade of America's most powerful city into the unseen chambers, temples and tunnels which exist there. All that was familiar is transformed into a shadowy, clandestine world of an artfully concealed past in which Masonic secrets and never before seen revelations seem to be leading him to a single i

Who is enemy?

Last Sunday I saw Veer-Zara. And I wondered who is responsible for Indo-Pak tensions. Who is responsible for this cold war? Who is? Now people from both sides want to stop this blood shed. Today all the problems in Pakistan and in India have been caused by our mutual suspicions. How can both the countries progress when massive amount of money is spent to find new ways of destroying each other. People of Pakistan must make sure that there democratically elected civilian must stay. And then they must ask more to do for Indo-Pak relationship. Indian people and Indian Government was never hostile, and never will be hostile to Pakistan. It was Pakistan which tests our patience every time. After all we believe in peace and non-violence. We share just about every thing in common our culture, our history, our freedom struggle, our joy and happiness, and of course our problems. Now when both sides want to rewrite the history then who is stopping us. Perhaps those people for whom power is every

Together We Can

The recent discovery of water on the surface of moon is one out of many examples which proves that by working together we can make those things possible which were long considered to be impossible. And together contribute to the development of mankind. Not by fighting mean wars but by joining hands we can make our world and our lives better. Our history have also proved that whenever different cultures have worked together we have overcome insurmountable problems and whenever we have fought we have only created them. May be our cultures are different, maybe we speak different languages but today our world demands that we join our hands and work together. Only when we join hands together we will be able to solve all of our problems. Can't we all work together and make our world free from war, terrorism and all those things which we as children never wanted to see. And give the coming generations a life free from all these problems. Can't we give them a world much better than wha

Wither Our Country

Last week Doordarshan was celebrating its 50th anniversary. And they were showing the journey which they had undertook in last 5o years. Well I remember a little of those days when we had 1 channel in whole TV. Those were much better than today, when we have more than 100 channels in our TV sets. Still there are hardly any good serials or programmes on TV. But that time we used to be so happy watching ‘Shree Krishna’ on Sundays and ‘Aladdin’ on Fridays. Best of them were ‘Surabhi’ and ‘The Discovery of India’. Those were the best days of my life. I mean not only in forms of TV best in every field. We had a good balanced life. But nowadays we have extra of everything. 24 hours knowledge channels, 24 hours news channels in all languages, even 24 hours cartoon channels. Today I must say must say this that those who are spending their childhood now are perhaps most unlucky. Every where there is tension and they are growing up in this kind of atmosphere. What kind of effect this is going to

Listening To Grasshoppers - Arundhati Roy

Listening to Grasshoppers is the latest book by Arundhati Roy. In this book she combines brilliant political insight and razor sharp prose. The book is collection of essays. In these, she takes a hard look at the underbelly of the world's largest democracy, and shows how the journey that Hindu nationalism and neo-liberal economic reforms began together in the early 1990s is unravelling in dangerous ways. Starting from 2001 attack on Parliament, 2002 Gujrat genocide till the 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai. Her book gives us a look into these incidents with a different perspective. She shows us how the poorest of us are denied justice by Indian establishment. 'The Briefing', included as an appendix, is a fictional text that brings together many of the issue central to the collection. As it tracks the fault line that threatens to destroy India's precarious future, Listening to Grasshoppers asks fundamental questions about democracy itself, a political system that has, by

Free Open Source Software

Free Open Source Software also known as FOSS unlike Microsoft Windows Platform is totally free. It can be developed by just about anyone. Here you can control our own computer with a long list of customisable features again something not found in Microsoft. Latest Foss OS also known as Linux have busted the previous myth of being very hard to learn. Nowadays the Linux are much much easier to use than Microsoft. The best part of the thing is that you neither have to pay money to buy the software nor have to shell out money for up gradation of your computer. It doesn't eats up your RAM. So it saves a massive amount of your money. Apart from that computer runs much faster than any of its Microsoft counterpart. And for students like us it is nothing less a boon. It not only save your very precious pocket money and runs very fast it also has a host of educational software which can be downloaded for free. And a best part of it is that it doesn't have got any viruses. So you don'

New Breed of Hope

“Long years ago we made tryst with destiny and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge. Not wholly or in full measure but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour when the world sleeps India will awake into life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the sound of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.” These were the words of our beloved Chacha Nehru spoke some 62 years ago. But these words stands as true now as they were when they were spoken. Each year a batch passes out of our college and a new breed of students take there place. Each year we step out from the old year into a new one, with a promise of a better future. Each year we do things for our country good or bad. But whenever our country fails in something we quickly jump to conclusion that some politician must have done something wrong. And sometime even question the power of world's largest democra

Lets make a change.

“Mother Earth has everything for our needs but nothing for our greed.” Mahatma Gandhi Today our world faces numerous environmental problems created by the greed of the human civilization. But we are the new breed of hope who have to work hard to make this world a better place to live in. Today we hear about global warming, climate change, sea level rise etc. These all are related to each other. Nowadays every activity of man is resulting to a great threat for our evergreen world. All countries are now thinking about the serious problems that have been already created by man and finding solution against those deadly serious problems. It is clear from the problems that the environment will not change until each one of us become sincere about our environment. This does not means sitting idle and only thinking for the environment will do. We have to do some regular, sincere, and necessary jobs to improve the present local & globa

Forgotten Heroes

26th July was a very ordinary day for all of us. We must have spent the day sitting in our home watching movies or going to some amusement park. But for many people it is the same day when there life was changed forever ten years back. 26th July2009 marks the tenth anniversary of our victory over Pakistani intruders in Kargil war. But how many still even remember the sacrifices made by our jawans. Those peoples have given their life so that they can protect us, our country and our democracy. But by doing nothing for our country we are simply forgetting them. They did not wanted a lot of money or lot opportunities. And after dying they don't want any memorials built for them. They only wanted to see their country and countrymen living happily. But are we doing any of those for which they have given up their lives. I don't think that remembering just means lighting candles signings songs etc. But remembering means doing whatever they wanted us to do. Then only there holy souls c

Dance of democracy is over.

It seems like all those who wrote all these kinds of blogs have simply wasted there time. Cos as the old people say young generation is very irresponsible. So we have proved. Today my 85 years old granny has gone for voting but my above 18 years old friends they were thinking of different kinds of excuses. One said he did not know that he must get a voter ID card. One says he does not know where his voting booth is. I always respected those in high offices. However, after 26/11, I started hating them. Now I again respect them. You know why? Because it for them why we have come here. Yes, there are bad peoples among them too but the majority is good. Now I salute them because we never crosscheck them still they have carried on to develop our country. However, many of them try their best to divide us but they actually unite us. Look everywhere everyone is part of this grand celebration whether he is a Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christians. Everyone who is an Indian is part of this. But what

Freedom or responsibility!

Today I become eighteen year old. A day for which I have waited for many years. I will get lots of power. From now, onwards only I will be responsible for steering my life. But somewhere I have heard that with new powers comes added responsibility. Likewise, with all this freedom and power many responsibilities have come to my shoulders. Firstly to respect and trust Constitution of my nation as a grown up. Because it was the work of the greatest India minds, and it promises to give all of us a better live. Then I have to select the best people to take care of my country and its constitution. Then to get all the rights promised in that scared book to live in this country I have to do all the duties it have asked me to do. Moreover, if something wrong happens in India, then I have to bear the responsibility also with any bureaucrat or any neta. From now onwards I must follow the roads shown by truth not those, which are easy. In addition, have to respect the sacrifices made my ancestors

How long we are going to sleep?

Last day world celebrated Earth day. We speak a lot we ask everyone to do a lot. But in reality we just do nothing at all. This year I spent the worst Earth Day ever in my life. Half of the day there was no electricity and half of the day there was no water. And most importantly there was grief of losing a very good friend. Rimili she was such a good person. She was not so attractive. That was the reason lot of my friends avoided her. But she never ever behaved badly with us. She was always good to all of us. She won us all with her love. But now when she could have seen the good days she went to God’s Own Place. Where ever she must have gone people must be very lucky. But I am just feeling that I am responsible for her death. We all are responsible for her death. How long are we gonna sleep and have ridiculous dreams about how better live are we getting. I ask you have our parents lived better lives than us or not? I think their lives were not so dependent on some few. They were inde

Kab Tak

How many more times will we say this that nothing will change? How many times? We all know that our country is changing and it is going in good direction. But still there are things which are bad in our country too like any other in this country. But we have to decide whether to fight for the better this country or to run away from this fight. Don’t we feel ashamed when we see a child working in a shop? Don’t we feel guilty when we refuse to give alms to a beggar? How many more time will this go on happening? How many more time will we see our country let down by few groups of peoples? How many more times will we choose those lambs for lions like us? Aur kab tak? Ab to needh se jago! Ab to awaaz uthao. Our country is called to be world’s largest democracy. It is not made this by just few bunches of peoples but it was made so by people like us. It was we who proved to the world that there is nothing stronger than human will. Our forefather wanted liberty and freedom, they fought for it.

No Criminals Please!

Can you tell me when you apply for a job in IAS or in Armed forces you are asked to show your police record. And only those with a clean chit get the job. Then why the people leading this good and responsible people will be criminals. From drug mafia to rapist and murderers, everyone seems love this public job. Even in many films we have seen that politicians are mocked when a character says that without a criminal record I could never enter politics. Is this the state of current Indian politics? Who are responsible for this all? We are. Even when we keep a house maid we ask so many questions from her. But when we are electing some one to such an important public office, we are not at all bothered to know who he is. If he speaks well and have got a good amount of muscle power, then we will vote for him. But when some thing goes wrong in the country then we take out candle march through the streets. But if we could have done this thing previously the may be we could have saved a lot of

Negative Vote

This year I won’t be able to vote because I will turn 18 on 12th of May. So I have decided to ask as many people as I could to vote this year in this LS election. But who ever I told to vote said that whom we should vote for no one is good. In reality also all the member hardly differ from each other. Every on speaks in the same voice. No says something good for which we should vote for. And today’s youth is not that fool who will be misled by there false rhetoric. So the best way to not to vote for those people is not to go for votes. But in this way a whole generation will be created who will have no belief in this democratic system. Previously when there was the paper voting system negative votes can be caste in many ways but nowadays the with EVMs this is not possible. But what if a voter doesn’t like any of the candidates. His only option as I said above could be not to vote. But is that fair. Election Commission must start the Negative Voting system. At least then we could in rea

Don’t Vote for Hindutva

On 26th November 2009 terrorist came from another country. They did not only kill 200 people but they wanted to kill the sprit of the Indian people. They wanted to divide India. But it was the people of India who spoiled all of there plans. People of different castes and religion took protest marches to show them that we are Indian first then we are Hindus, Muslim, Sikh or Christian. Even Muslims all across the country wore black arm bands. But there are people who can not see the real India and its problems. Our problems are poverty, over population, education, health, environment and security. But nowadays who says that “I will build better roads, schools, hospitals” but they say “I will demolish that mosque and built a temple”. Tell me what a patient will do with a temple? What a student will do at a mosque? I am not one who does not believe in God. I truly believe in God. And I don’t know any religion in this world which divides the heart of individuals. And as much I have known fr

Don’t vote for Communists

They talk of the working labour class. But after election they hit them hard. They promise of building better roads. But what you get is potholed cart ways. They promise of building new factories and new farms. But you would never get factories and the fertile farm lands will be also destroyed. They promise better and free education but you will only get a withered educational infrastructure. Which causes India’s one the most educated state to fall from its position. No one would I believe would say all these because I have lived through this hell for last six years. Once I was also mesmerised by the ideas of these communists. My whole family supports them. Even two of my uncles have worked so much for them. I believe that all is in the vein. But this is not going to be the same with me. I will not choose fear again like my predecessors had. This the time for change and I will choose the change. That doesn’t mean headless TMC. But someone good will surely come here one day to change b

Button Dabhao Bharat Bachao

In the coming months of April and May India will go to world’s largest democratic process for the 15th time. World will again watch us and envy us for we being one of the youngest, most diverse yet surrounded by gloomed neighbours have stood the test of time. Our democracy has been compared to that of Athens. We have always been the beacon of hope and optimism for not only this corner of the world but for whole world. And today we have lost our hope and optimism for just few bunches of people. Who disrespect our constitution. Who disrespect the eternal sprits of our forbearer, who fought and gave there live for betterment of our lives. These people disrespect those who are guarding our border from the highest and coldest of mountains to remotest and hottest of the deserts. These people disrespect those who work hard to make India better. And above all they disrespect the sprit of people. So now the time have come to show that we are good and we can change our country and make it better

Happy Change Day

To every one who is reading this. It’s been two weeks since Barrack Obama have taken his seat at White House. And as promised he has brought in a lot of change in the USA and world. Hope he succeeds in the long and also short four years in office and then again get re-elected. Because if and only if he succeeds then only people will like change. Alright now I really don’t have time to write any more my board exams are lurking overhead. I am really worried about. Apart from that I would like to say that I bought ‘Ignited Minds’ and it is a great book by APJ Abdul Kalam. I tell you it is a great book by him. Even in this recession days my whole month’s saving was not wasted. (Few experts are saying that it will hit India so badly.) Alright full review will come later on after 25th or so. But please wish me good luck and good luck to everyone who is giving board exams.

Have we lost a battle?

On 26th of December exactly one month from the attack on Mumbai. Government of India issued a travel advisory to all the Indians to avoid travelling to or to be in Pakistan. After few Indian were arrested for the Lahore blast. And on the other side of the border Pakistan was constantly warning India not to attack its territory. Or it will retaliate with all its force. After all what people like us have done from last four – five years the situation is same as it was four – five years ago when we started. Have we people lost our battle against hate, terrorism, partition? And people like Arnesh who propagate hate have won this battle. Is pen really mightier than sword? Or nowadays as they use AK47 which is no sword, so pen stands no chance. What took us four years to build was destroyed in just few days. At the time when both of the countries should have come together and should have worked hard against our common enemy. Governments of both the countries were aiming there Sukois and F-16
