Free Open Source Software

Free Open Source Software also known as FOSS unlike Microsoft Windows Platform is totally free. It can be developed by just about anyone. Here you can control our own computer with a long list of customisable features again something not found in Microsoft. Latest Foss OS also known as Linux have busted the previous myth of being very hard to learn. Nowadays the Linux are much much easier to use than Microsoft. The best part of the thing is that you neither have to pay money to buy the software nor have to shell out money for up gradation of your computer. It doesn't eats up your RAM. So it saves a massive amount of your money. Apart from that computer runs much faster than any of its Microsoft counterpart. And for students like us it is nothing less a boon. It not only save your very precious pocket money and runs very fast it also has a host of educational software which can be downloaded for free. And a best part of it is that it doesn't have got any viruses. So you don't have to spend time cleaning viruses. And the as there are no antivirus software installed so the machine runs even faster. Standard start-up time of Ubuntu 9.04 (which is the latest version of Ubuntu) is less than 15 seconds. Whereas on my same computer Windows XP Professional take more than 1minute. Graphics are also great. Even all the three major political parties INC, BJP, and CPM though divided on other grounds are very much united in this matter. Therefore our college must shift from Microsoft to Linux. Even all the major Universities in many parts of India are using it. Even foreign Universities like Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Oxford all have shifted to Linux. It is best suited for Libraries which uses most of its funding for buying books and not for computer up gradation. And I just forgot to tell you something, after that you will say wow. It can be also run on any regional language. Which includes Bengali and Hindi. So if you don't know English well then also you can surely use it well. You can download it for free from net or you can get it for free with any of the issues of Linux For You. Or you can also get it from me.
So what are you waiting for? Go get it and change your whole computing experience.

UnIndianing India

Today our Republic turns 70years. In these year we have raised ourselves from ashes of partition and hate, braved conflicts internal and external. Yet we have carried on as a republic for so long, because we stayed true to the ideals of our founding fathers. The ideas that shaped our struggle against a colonist, against the communalists. But very often did our republic find itself at the verge and it seemed the dreams that freedom fighters saw for our free nation might be too much. Last few months if not years have been like that as well. When we seem to be turning our backs to the principles that defined our country. Principles of unity in diversity. Where so many people from so many different part regions, religions speak so many languages, can live and thrive together. Where different ideas from anywhere is not frowned upon. Where one does not have to fear to speak his/her minds out. Where people from different places and religions were welcomed not just as guests but as God...
