We are the Climate Generation

Today our world faces plethora of problems. And I believe that most dangerous are the environmental problems. Unlike others which people think can be solved by guns and cannons. These problems can never be solved in the same way. It needs awakening of the human mind. It needs us to develop the respect which we must have for our only living planet. Lives will be lost, homes will be destroyed our whole is on the edge of annihilation. But there is a silver lining to this dark cloud.
From 13th to 17th July one of the brightest minds from this part of the world (India and Sri Lanka) were engaged in a training programme which is one of a kind. The training programme was organised by TERI and British Council. And all those brightest minds are International Climate Champions 2010. Part of British council’s initiative of creating Climate Generation.
Those 5 days were one of the best days of my life. Not only did I learn so much from our wonderful trainers Laura and Sarah but also from my Climate Buddies. Perhaps I have also given some of my knowledge. But most inspiring and motivating was so see passion among all the champs relating to environment. Living in a small town I used to think that no one really cares about the environment. It is just a topic for seminars, debates and rallies. But thanks to all you guys today I know that story of Rimili my friend who died in 2009 due to reasons relating to Climate Change won’t be repeated again. Thanks a lot every one.
I can’t write all my feelings in just these words so to make the blog less boring I am dividing the stuff into few entries. I’ll let you know about that in due time. Thanks to Raghav for creating such a nice and only one google group for all of us. Just as Sandeep wrote United we stand, divided we fall. In this battle against climate change we must be united. Best of luck to all of you. Yes we can, yes we must, yes we will.

Nice read.

And thanks for mentioning me in your post. Would like to know more about Rimili.

At times i have also felt about climate change being a topic only for discussions at seminars and conferences but take note of the fact that it doesn't take much more than a few of us sticking our feet and demanding for the world to listen and change.

For better times.. For change!

UnIndianing India

Today our Republic turns 70years. In these year we have raised ourselves from ashes of partition and hate, braved conflicts internal and external. Yet we have carried on as a republic for so long, because we stayed true to the ideals of our founding fathers. The ideas that shaped our struggle against a colonist, against the communalists. But very often did our republic find itself at the verge and it seemed the dreams that freedom fighters saw for our free nation might be too much. Last few months if not years have been like that as well. When we seem to be turning our backs to the principles that defined our country. Principles of unity in diversity. Where so many people from so many different part regions, religions speak so many languages, can live and thrive together. Where different ideas from anywhere is not frowned upon. Where one does not have to fear to speak his/her minds out. Where people from different places and religions were welcomed not just as guests but as God...

Together we can

I liked the idea given by Sulakshana. Why should we all work separately and not together? After all, all of ours projects are related to climate change. We are just tackling it through different fronts. Someone is working for green building, someone in climate finance, someone in awareness etc. But my project has got best of all the worlds. So surely need the help of all you guys out there. But then the one of our Martian Mr. Raghav’s worry is very correct. What I think we should do is we should simply write about what we are doing and let the help flow in. All the things which Raghav says are true and practical. But then we have to make our project impactful. And this work cannot be done alone for sure. So we should focus our energy at not more than ten projects at a time. But surely we can pass suggestions and all to others. For example we in East Zone more precisely ICCs in and around Kolkata have 4 waste management projects so we are doing it together. I also have a waste managemen...

F.R.I.E.N.D.S - can’t we be……….

“At the stroke of the midnight hour when the world sleeps India will wake into a new life and freedom”. These were the words which started a new era in world history. It created our very own great nation India and two similarly great nations on world’s map. (Well I am not going to give any history or geography lessons. So go ahead and read on. It is important coz it is the title of my blog. And my first blog is a bit related to it). But world never knew about those pieces which were remnants of millions of the shattered hearts of people residing in these broken countries. The broken heart which people carried with them made forget the definition of friends and friendship. But now the time have changed. We can’t live as our grand dad and dads have lived. With our young heart, passion and energy to do something new, can’t we remember what friendship is? Will we also foolishly maintain the same legacy of hate and distrust with our neighbours? But somewhere around a voice comes to me and s...
