Our PM(s): Part 1

The date was 1st of June 2010. I was very nervous when I called the British Council office and some one picked up the phone and told me I have been short-listed for the interview. That was the start and after that she has not stopped her habit of giving me good news on phone. The next day was 21st of June and she told me I have been selected as International Climate Champion 2010 and she will be our Program Manager. To whom I affectionately refer as our PM. (The reason You all know) Well the first problem I had was calling her ma'am. Finally after going to Delhi I learnt to call her Radhika Di.
Well describing her is not a very easy job. Even for someone like who have been Junior Journalist. She is just awesome. From the first day till now never perhaps it has happened that I have asked for any kind of help and she has not given me that. She is sometimes a bit bossy but most of the time just like our friend. What I have found her to be is like one of my elder sisters. On whom I could always rely for advice and support. She have given me the support and courage which I lost after finding that I am competing with people from one of the best institutions of this nation. I have always found her advice to be most practical and pragmatic. Whether in professional life or in personal life. I have to say that her advices have helped me a lot in my project. In the changing situation in which my college is today. Perhaps if I could not have incorporated her advices in my project. It could have never got off the paper and on the ground. In the same way her personal advices have given me the strength when I needed them most and wiped tears when I cried. And not just me I think same is the story with all the other climate champs as well. During our Delhi stay we all felt that.
When I thought of British Council I thought our PMs could be very formal and bossy. But she has proved me wrong. So have the other PMs. Today I think we climate champs and our PM is like a family working jointly towards a common goal to save this planet. So I just want to thank you my PM our Best PM.

Climate Criminals

There was a seminar on Climate Change and Global Warming in the women' college. And most of the speakers lambasted repeatedly the United States of America for all the climate crises which the world is facing today. Thought there is not an iota of doubt in this fact USA is the biggest polluter on the planet today. But the exaggeration by them is simply the by product of the left (mis)rule which have created anti America but they them selves have done nothing less than what the Americans have done. Cos if they were so responsible to the environment then they could not have created a ministry of environment for sleep only purpose. If it were not the hard efforts and iron will of environmentalists under Subhas Dutta. The smoke spewing 2 stokes could still have been there on the roads of Kolkata to pollute. And we have seen that how reluctant the government was in this case. And the most recent one was the exclusion of Environmental Education marks from the class 12th score when going ...

UnIndianing India

Today our Republic turns 70years. In these year we have raised ourselves from ashes of partition and hate, braved conflicts internal and external. Yet we have carried on as a republic for so long, because we stayed true to the ideals of our founding fathers. The ideas that shaped our struggle against a colonist, against the communalists. But very often did our republic find itself at the verge and it seemed the dreams that freedom fighters saw for our free nation might be too much. Last few months if not years have been like that as well. When we seem to be turning our backs to the principles that defined our country. Principles of unity in diversity. Where so many people from so many different part regions, religions speak so many languages, can live and thrive together. Where different ideas from anywhere is not frowned upon. Where one does not have to fear to speak his/her minds out. Where people from different places and religions were welcomed not just as guests but as God...

Negative Vote

This year I won’t be able to vote because I will turn 18 on 12th of May. So I have decided to ask as many people as I could to vote this year in this LS election. But who ever I told to vote said that whom we should vote for no one is good. In reality also all the member hardly differ from each other. Every on speaks in the same voice. No says something good for which we should vote for. And today’s youth is not that fool who will be misled by there false rhetoric. So the best way to not to vote for those people is not to go for votes. But in this way a whole generation will be created who will have no belief in this democratic system. Previously when there was the paper voting system negative votes can be caste in many ways but nowadays the with EVMs this is not possible. But what if a voter doesn’t like any of the candidates. His only option as I said above could be not to vote. But is that fair. Election Commission must start the Negative Voting system. At least then we could in rea...
