Krazzy Pour

In last four years which I spent in Kolkata. I have never experienced such a horrible kind of rainfall. Just three days before pujas it stopped. Half of the pandals were left, half of the idols were left. Streets full of water. Thanks to god that there was no rain in those three days. Everyone enjoyed a lot. After all it is the biggest festivals of Bengalis.
3 Years before I didn’t believed all those prediction by scientist and geologists about changing rain pattern. Every thing was just going good. But it was monsoon it used to rain and then stop. But it was 27 July 05 which changed everything. I still remember the hooded streets of Mumbai, and all those who died there. That year Supreme Court added Environmental Education in our syllabus. And I started to recycle and reuse paper. That was what I could at time. But now I believe and search for any such warning given by those people. They have recorded a rise of rain fall in eastern India annually whereas there is a decreasing trend in northern India.
India still is an agricultural country. And people in villages still wait for rain for there harvest. Unfortunately decreasing trend is shown mainly by the places which grows the bulk of food resources. But increasing trends is noticed in the places near coast. It looks like a huge disaster is waiting to happen. Not only farmer’s life is related to rain but all of ours are too. And it is not only flood and drought which are going to affect our lives. Irregular monsoons will disrupt every system of our lives.
Here’s one example. As I said before pujas there were rainfall West Bengal. And all idols were half done. I heard one of my mother’s friends critiquing the rainfall and saying that an idol maker has committed suicide as he was unable to meet the deadline. Isn’t that pathetic.

Together we can

I liked the idea given by Sulakshana. Why should we all work separately and not together? After all, all of ours projects are related to climate change. We are just tackling it through different fronts. Someone is working for green building, someone in climate finance, someone in awareness etc. But my project has got best of all the worlds. So surely need the help of all you guys out there. But then the one of our Martian Mr. Raghav’s worry is very correct. What I think we should do is we should simply write about what we are doing and let the help flow in. All the things which Raghav says are true and practical. But then we have to make our project impactful. And this work cannot be done alone for sure. So we should focus our energy at not more than ten projects at a time. But surely we can pass suggestions and all to others. For example we in East Zone more precisely ICCs in and around Kolkata have 4 waste management projects so we are doing it together. I also have a waste managemen...

UnIndianing India

Today our Republic turns 70years. In these year we have raised ourselves from ashes of partition and hate, braved conflicts internal and external. Yet we have carried on as a republic for so long, because we stayed true to the ideals of our founding fathers. The ideas that shaped our struggle against a colonist, against the communalists. But very often did our republic find itself at the verge and it seemed the dreams that freedom fighters saw for our free nation might be too much. Last few months if not years have been like that as well. When we seem to be turning our backs to the principles that defined our country. Principles of unity in diversity. Where so many people from so many different part regions, religions speak so many languages, can live and thrive together. Where different ideas from anywhere is not frowned upon. Where one does not have to fear to speak his/her minds out. Where people from different places and religions were welcomed not just as guests but as God...
